Animate your music

I love love love love love good animation that goes along with music. If it’s good music, it’s even better. Here’s a little collection of some of my favorite most excellent animations set to music. Some are bare bones hand-drawn animation – some are live action mixed with motion graphics. All are cool.
Röyksopp – Happy Up Here | Directed/Animated by Reuben Sutherland
New single by Röyksopp. Awesome motion graphic work, fun fun dancy song.

Minilogue – Hitchhiker’s Choice | Animated by Kristofer Ström
Excellent stream-of-consciousness style whiteboard animation. Works perfectly with the music. I love his weird little animal characters!

Same style characters, but fancy motion graphics!

Tahiti Boy and the Palmtree family 1973 – Stink Paris | Directed/Animated by Ben & Julia
Psychedelic mix of live action, puppets and animation. I want my own singing stuffed mushroom.

Venetian Snares – Szamar Madar | Animated by David O’Reilly
David O’Reilly will blow your mind. I’m going to write another post about his other animations and his short film, Please Say Something. But for now let this blow your mind:

Kid Cudi – Day N’ Nite | Directed by So-Me, Animation by Mathematic
From the guy that brought you that rad animated T-Shirt graphic video for Justice’s D.A.N.C.E.

Grandmaster Flash – It’s Nasty | Animated by Kirsten Lepore
Awesome music videos don’t have to be official. Or cost a lot of money. Or any money at all (assuming she already owned Guess Who).

Architecture in Helsinki – Do the Whirlwind | Animated by Paul Robertson
Paul Robertson is another animator who will blow your mind. But until I stop procrastinating and write a whole post about him, here’s a gentle introduction:
Jason Forrest – War Photographer | Animated by Joel Trussel
If you haven’t seen this epic viking rock and roll battle, then I’m not sure we can be friends anymore.
Gorillaz – DARE | Directed by Jamie Hewlett and Pete Candeland
I love all of the Gorillaz videos – but I especially like to watch Noodle dance in this one.
Junior Senior – Move Your Feet | Animated by Shynola
One word: fun. Two words: DANCING TOAST.
I’m sure I’m forgetting some others that I love… but Todd is watching Porco Rosso and he’s feeling lonely in the living room all by himself.
